Materials:
• 1/2-inch-thick twisted nylon rope
• Kraft paper
• Pencil
• Sewing needle and thread
• Handheld lighter
• Permanent craft glue
Instructions:
1. Starting at one end of the rope, form a loose knot and leave a 30-inch tail on the right side, as well as some slack on the left side. Gently pull down on loops.
2. Flip loops to the left, then lift the first loop and cross it over the second.
3. Using the slack end, weave diagonally toward the bottom right. Pull the rope through. Continue weaving back to the top, adjusting the rope accordingly.
4. Follow the path of the first round with slack end, staying parallel to the previous round. Pull the rope through after each pass, weaving until the mat is formed.
5. Finish ends by using a needle to sew through the rope just below any frayed ends and tightly wrap the thread around the rope a couple of times. Sew through several more times to secure. Cut off the end of the rope just above the thread.
6. Singe frayed ends with a lighter to seal and sew to the underside. Apply permanent craft glue to underside between ropes in spots to prevent shifting.
