Come and celebrate the kick-off of summer, Decatur-style, at the Decatur Beach Party on Friday, June 21st from 5:00 to 11:00 p.m. in downtown Decatur. This is truly where the beach meets the street, with pop-up performances, a DJ, live music, a sandy “beach,” and more. Join in on the fun this Friday in Decatur Square!
Gather up those sand toys and come ready to play! This year, there will be even more beach than before, with 80 tons of sand hitting Ponce De Leon Avenue. Kids’ activities will line the boardwalk area, and for the older kids, there will be a rock-climbing wall and other exciting games.
Enjoy pop-up entertainment by a variety of musical and dance acts. An on-site food court will include food trucks, boardwalk fare, and a selection of locally brewed beers. Wine, soft drinks and water will also be available for purchase. All of the restaurants will be open for business and many will be serving special Beach Party menu items.
Thanks to the event’s generous sponsors, admission is free, and the event has been expanded. All proceeds go back to the Decatur Business Association to help keep this event, May and September concerts, the holiday bonfire, and many others throughout the year free to the community.
The Decatur Business Association was incorporated in 1985 to serve as the nonprofit, membership partner for the Decatur Downtown Development Authority (DDDA). One of the first orders of business for the DBA was to create a festival or special event to bring young families back to downtown Decatur and develop excitement about downtown’s possibilities. The Beach Party was created for this purpose in 1985, and remains one of the city’s most anticipated yearly events.
This Friday, head to Decatur Square for a summer block party unlike anything you’ve ever seen. No entry fee is required. However, there will be small fees for face painting, souvenirs, and some of the larger kids’ activities. For more information, visit www.decaturdba.com.
